Unhealthy food weakens our immune system, so be sure you stay stocked up on fruits and vegetables and of course limit processed foods. Supplements are also an excellent way to get an extra boost of antioxidants and protection, I have my family take the following supplements to keep their immunity boosted during this season of our lives... Covid19!
Vitamin C - There are many reasons why people take vitamin C supplements and one of the biggest reasons is to boost immunity. I'm currently taking 2,000 mg per day, but you can take much more. For those who are unable to take a Vitamin C supplement, you can get some vitamin C by eating oranges, strawberries, kiwi fruit, bell peppers, broccoli, kale, and spinach.
Vitamin D - Also known as the "Sunshine Vitamin" can help boost immunity. It's also known to possibly reduce depression which some people feel if they're unable to get direct sunshine. I don't usually take a Vitamin D3 supplement because I do get plenty of sunshine daily living in Arizona, and I do get 1,000 IU's of D in my multi-vitamin. During this time of wanting to keep my immunity high, I take an extra 2,000 IU's. You can also get Vitamin D from food sources such as salmon, sardines, shrimp, egg yolks, and fortified milk, cereals, yogurt and orange juice (but watch out for added sugar in those last 3)
Oregano Oil - I know this might sound a little crazy, but oregano oil can be concentrated into an essential oil that's packed with antioxidants and known as a natural antibiotic. Like Vit. C & D, oregano oil has a lot of health benefits, but I always use it during times of travel (especially flying), if feeling cold symptoms coming on, or in situations that I want my family's immune system protected. I have used this for years, and it truly does work! We're currently taking 550 mg per day, but we usually take twice that amount if we're getting ready for a big trip.
Ashwagandha - As far as any feelings of anxiety during this time of keeping safe and healthy, I'd also recommend Ashwagandha, one of my favorite supplements for mild anxiety, energy, and hormone balance. I also use Melissa Oil (on my temples and under the nose) for instant relief on anxiety, it's an essential oil I mix with a carrier oil.
Gratitude Journal - Not a supplement of course, but something I'd highly recommend at this time (and always), to help us focus on all the positive things going on in our lives, there are so many! During the next 30 days, try journaling and writing down at least one thing every day you're grateful for. Today I'm grateful for a quiet morning to myself for bible study, a morning run, FT visit with a client, a home to feel safe and protected in, a bathroom remodel, hearing Isabelle's giggles from her room, healthy food in my fridge, seeing my parents later on FT, and playing a game of Phase 10 tonight after dinner! You'll be amazed how much writing down what we're grateful for can boost our immune system!
